On-site calibration – a trendsetter amongst service options
Superior production quality guaranteed In order to ensure the quality of screw connections in assembly processes, the tools responsible must undergo regular tests and calibration procedures. Usually these services, in the form of calibrations, must be carried out by the manufacturer of the screwdriving equipment in their own laboratories. If it is not possible to do without equipment for the few days it will take to send it away for calibration in an external laboratory the answer is: on-site calibration! DEPRAG SCHULZ GMBH u. CO. in Amberg, Germany offers this service feature. In interview with Tobias Dirrigl, Application Technician for EC Screwdriving Technology, the benefits to customers of mobile calibrations are explained in detail: Question: Danger to life and limb – an expression which is frequently associated with quality for assembly production. What role does calibration play? Dirrigl: The quality of screw assemblies is influenced by the precision of the screwdriving or measurement

Rubber-tire upcycling process Sandvik TPS Composite Solutions
Rubber-tire upcycling process
Sandvik TPS Composite Solutions • Just in Europe approximately 3 million tons of waste rubber become available, mainly in form of used tires. • The used tires are currently not reused in an adequate manner, a large portion is incinerated for cement production, deposited on landfills or simply burned for energy production. • By adding a very pure finely grained rubber powder the physical properties of specific plastics are positively influenced and can be used to substitute products with critical resources. • Contrary to vulcanised rubber, the resulting materials are fully recyclable. This eliminates the problem of waste handling for the customers. General description: The process is based on mixing of highly pure rubber powder (<0,4 mm) with conventional plastics. The rubber powder is produced out of used tires by means of a multi-stage process. The tires are shredded into pieces the size of a hand. These are further reduced in size in a specialised mechanical process and freed

How to screen 300 tons of cane sugar per hour? RHEWUM high efficiency screening machines for sugar
How to screen 300 tons of cane sugar per hour?
RHEWUM high efficiency screening machines for sugar RHEWUM was faced with this task by the Indian Cane Power Limited (ICPL). For this purpose a screening plant with a combination of the type RHEWUM WA and RHEWUM WAU was delivered to India. The fed 300 tons per hour are precisely classified by only two RHEWUM sieves into the five required fractions of 1.80 mm/ 1.20 mm/ 0.80 mm/ 0.45 mm and 0.25 mm. The electromagnetic drive that is specific to RHEWUM is particularly used for the fine separations of less than 1 mm, whereas the low-maintenance WAU drive is used for separating fractions of 1.80 mm and 1.20 mm. The screening plant is loaded by two SV feeders that each evenly distribute 150 tons of cane sugar per hour on the post-positioned screening machine. The discerning customer chose a high quality stainless steel design. The ICPL was just founded in 2002 and has been growing since then from year to year thanks to the close collaboration with the local farmers, who provide the required sugar cane seeds. The plant

Food-PET or Non-Food-PET, that is the Question Differentiation of used PET bottles by means of UV fluorescence markers
Food-PET or Non-Food-PET, that is the Question
Differentiation of used PET bottles by means of UV fluorescence markers The ”Final Consortium Meeting” of the Polymark project was held at Sesotec GmbH in Schönberg on 7th and 8th February 2017. Polymark was a three-year research project funded by the European Commission that focused on a new technology for the identification and sorting of plastics, particularly PET. The correct detection of plastics and the generation of high-quality secondary raw materials should be further improved. The project involved participants from the complete PET value creation chain. The objective of the Polymark project was to increase the level of food-contact-approved recyclate from the PET recycling process by differentiating between PET bottles that were used for food (food bottles) and bottles that did not contain food (non-food bottles). On the one hand marker substances were developed for this purpose that make it possible in the recycling process to efficiently differentiate food-PET bottles from non-food PET bottles. These marker substances

Flex Tube Diverter Reduces Cross Contamination for Recipes Vortex Flex Tube Diverter Valve Handling Chili Powder
Flex Tube Diverter Reduces Cross Contamination for Recipes
Vortex Flex Tube Diverter Valve Handling Chili Powder When this national company was considering a new blending and mixing station, much of the emphasis for the project was placed on increasing output with additional production efficiency. Previously, the company had experienced issues with valves and diverters within an old system. The diverters caused cross-contamination among the product recipes and the slide gates leaked to atmosphere. In both cases, the expensive chili powder had to be trashed. Chili powder leaking to atmosphere creates an airborne health hazard (eyes and skin) and also a “slippery floor” safety hazard for company employees. The new system incorporated a Vortex flex tube diverter to eliminate product cross-contamination and Vortex roller gates to shut off and seal material at the bottom of dry blenders and mixers. Production was impressed with the performance of the Vortex valves as well as the maintenance friendly features each one has to offer. “These valves truly seal our material.”

Engineering to maximise performance
Engineering to maximise performance
With testing facilities world-wide Gericke has the opportunity to begin the engineering phase by conducting a wide variety of in depth analytical tests. This helps in identifying the customer’s product characteristics to eliminate any risks, create solutions and supply the customer with the required equipment for the factories optimal performance. One of our specific tests that we conduct is on powder degradation, which determines the necessary conditions of the installation to minimise product damage. We analyse this by measuring product size and characteristics at the beginning of testing, transporting the powder (to replicate the intended process) and then concluding with replicating the beginning tests to analyse the differences. 3D Modeling is also an important phase to enable us to maximise the performance of our installations. Our experienced engineers begin by building the complete offered installation within a 3D model replica of the customer’s environment,

EHEDG Magnetic filter with CIP cleaning
Magnetic filter meets the highest food safety standard The EHEDG magnetic filter recently introduced by Goudsmit Magnetics is specially designed for the food industry. This hygienic filter is suitable for CIP systems: the magnet can be magnetically operated, without the need to open the filter housing for cleaning. The filter is constructed of Neodymium magnets that provide more effective separation of very small ferrous particles as small as 15µm, weakly magnetic particles and even iron dust from sticky substances such as chocolate, pastes, powders and fruit juices. The magnet has a maximum flux density of 11,300 gauss at the bar and removes the specified particles from both liquid and powdered products. The entire system is made of grade 316 stainless steel, is smoothly finished (Ra≤0.4ųm) and is EHEDG certified. CIP CLEANING Cleaning of the magnet occurs automatically. When production is stopped the magnet can be ’blown’ out of the product flow so the flushing cycle can carry away the captured ferritic

ACO moisture sensor in SFM4 bypass screw ACO moisture measurement for biomass like wood chips, sawdust and wood shavings
ACO moisture sensor in SFM4 bypass screw
ACO moisture measurement for biomass like wood chips, sawdust and wood shavings Properties: Ideal material conditions for the on-line moisture measurement Flexible mounting of the bypass screw conveyor Maintenance flap for taking samples Subsequently applicable Great experience in the field of saw dust Versions: Length, height, dimensions of flanges on customer requirements Version for explosion-risk areas (EX) The SFM4 bypass screw compaction unit has to be placed in a free fall situation of material, e.g. in a drop shaft. A partial flow of this material is trapped in the first section of the compaction unit. The screw compactor compresses the material and conveys it into the second part of the unit, right across the installed ACO moisture sensor for the determination of the residual moisture. Then the material falls down through a drop pipe back into the process. Based on this constant and equal conditions (density, dumping height, etc...) precise measuring results are available.

MOLOSsafe – Safety by protection against overfilling
Maximum safety for pneumatically filled silos with the silo filling device SFA from MOLLET The silo filling device SFA is a substantial part of the MOLOSsafe silo protection system from MOLLET. MOLOSsafe is a complete and independent protection system and the best possible protection for silos that are pneumatically filled by silo-vehicles. The basic package contains beside the silo filling device a high-level indicator, a control and a signal horn and can be supplemented with further useful elements like signal lamp, pressure valve, pressure indicator, demand indicator or empty detector. The silo filling device SFA consist mainly of a pinch valve of the MOLOSvalve series and a MOLOSswing swiveling lever. The pinch valve is the ideal solution for the shutting off pneumatically conveyed powdery and grained bulk goods. Due to the straight and not reduced passage through the valve there are no jams and no reduction of the feed pressure. Long service life of hoses and easy change of these if needed are a matter of course. Typical applications are fillings lines

Safe is safe, right? Factors that should be considered beyond the usual characteristics when selecting safety d
Safe is safe, right?
Factors that should be considered beyond the usual characteristics when selecting safety d The safety characteristics of the products (KSt value or Pmax) and the plant-specific marginal conditions (volume/design strength) may influence the selection of the proper safety device. This is common knowledge that the public is well aware of. Additionally, more and more plant engineers and operators are placing a key emphasis on a proper certification and the marking of safety devices as well as system components. A largely ignored aspect is the tamper protection of protective systems and safety devices. In the recent past, REMBE engineers have been increasingly detecting evidence of such grievances during on-site plant inspections: Protective systems were disabled, electronic signalling and warning devices bypassed, and mechanical elements secured with an insufficient number of connecting elements and screws. The reasons for this are complex and surely not easy to fathom. The safety devices of well-known manufacturers such as REMBE are therefore designed in such

Dust-free ship-unloading
Dust-free ship-unloading
Ships that are loaded with cement can be unloaded dust-free using a pneumatic loading and unloading installation. Van Aalst Group specializes in both mobile self-unloaders and unloading systems that are installed on cement carriers. The installations are always equipped with TBMA loading chutes to ensure the dust-free transfer of product. Ship loads of cement can be transferred efficiently and dust- free into silos using a pneumatic loading and unloading facility. These facilities can be equipped with a loading chute that is able to fill bulk trucks and/or railcars. If a port only occasionally docks a cement-carrying ship, it will not necessarily be equipped with an onshore pneumatic unloading system with loading chute. In this situation, it is better if the vessel itself is equipped with an unloading installation. These vessels are especially useful as they can sail all over the world, and call at ports that lack the appropriate infrastructure for unloading cement.

Over 120 years of Industry Knowledge
Over 120 years of Industry Knowledge
Dating back to the summer of 1894 is when the family run company Gericke was first set up. At that time, flour milling was among the first industries to incorporate automatic handling systems for bulk solids. Operations such as cleaning, conveying, storing, discharging, feeding, grinding, mixing, separating, de-dusting and bagging were already being developed. With the emerging influence of the third Gericke family, the company established a strong development of philosophy for expansion and growth. Now over 120 years on the company is still going strong under the 4th generation management of Mr Markus Gericke. Gericke started with just one location in the industrial district of Zurich and has now expanded world-wide by establishing subsidiaries in key countries which currently employs over 260 committed employees. People are the company’s greatest asset and hold a key position in all future development plans. With the delegation of responsibility and
