Short delivery times for feeding technology Vibratory spiral feeders and sword feeders delivered swiftly
Short delivery times for feeding technology
Vibratory spiral feeders and sword feeders delivered swiftly It is a trend which began in the 80s and has continued to the present generation, almost becoming the accepted standard: vehicle manufacturers are bringing a growing number of models onto the market in increasingly fast succession. This has a noticeable impact on product development and production. There is particularly high demand for concepts which shorten the development period. For instance, one efficient method is to plan, design and order production systems and resources parallel to the development phase of a new car model rather than subsequently. Therefore, any alterations which may arise during product development have a direct influence on production resource planning, which consequently may need to be adapted. A suboptimal flow of information, as a consequence of multiple organisational interfaces, can increase the scope and complexity of required alterations and lead to delays in the overall development time. In this case, there is particularly high pressure

Image Analysis of powdered milk Retsch Technology - Particle size and shape of spray-dried material
Image Analysis of powdered milk
Retsch Technology - Particle size and shape of spray-dried material Dairy products like milk, cream, or even yogurt can be evaporated to dryness in order to produce a powder with increased shelf life and easy handling. These powders are then conveniently used to produce delicacies like chocolate, pastries, or ice cream. Powdered milk is produced by spray-drying which is a well established method in food technology but also in the chemical or pharmaceutical industry. For spray drying, the milk is first pasteurized, and then transferred to a spray tower where it is dispersed through tiny nozzles (atomizers) into 200°C hot air. The droplets immediately loose most of the residual water and the water content is reduced from 87,5% to 3% in the process. The result is a fine powder with a typical particle size distribution between 20 µm and 500 µm. The size distribution affects properties like dissolution, reconstitution, or flowability and is therefore a quality relevant feature.

Doing away with air! BEUMER Group: Determining the venting capacity of bags with a mobile unit
Doing away with air!
BEUMER Group: Determining the venting capacity of bags with a mobile unit With the BEUMER bag tester, BEUMER Group has developed a testing device which is easy to transport and enables users to exactly determine the venting capacity of any type of valve bag – including all paper and plastic layers, and glued areas. The determined parameters can be used to optimise the manufacture of bags or check conformity with specifications. Bags filled with bulk material are then stacked flat on pallets after being closed. These stacks are only stable if the air has been removed from the bags lying on top of each other. Therefore, the remaining air needs to escape from the filled bags before they are closed. The quicker this happens, the higher the filling capacity. The new BEUMER bag tester provides users with important information on the filling behaviour of each bag. This is relevant for the manufacture of bags and filling technology, as well as for transport and logistics. A pressure-compensated flow control valve on the device constantly increases

REMBE Q-Ball REMBE product novelties: Q-Ball
REMBE Q-Ball
REMBE product novelties: Q-Ball The principal of flameless venting is a REMBE invention from the 1980s, which has changed the world of Explosion Safety like no other. It all started with the Q-Rohr, and is now continued with the Q-Ball. In addition to the requirement that neither flames nor pressure escape from the protection system, flameless venting devices should also be evaluated in terms of their venting efficiency and weight. Because: Low efficiencies mean that more / bigger venting areas and associated protection systems are required. A too heavy weight requires conversions to the vessel in order to ensure its stability. The Q-Ball, which is primarily designed for elevators and screens, uses the principle of the parallel contour relief developed by Roland Bunse. Thanks to the innovative design, the weight of the Q-Ball is very low. While comparable products from other manufacturers weigh around 45 kg, the Q-Ball which only weighs around 25 kg is an absolute lightweight, and 3 kg lighter than

”A new era of testing” at Brabender Technologie
”A new era of testing” at Brabender Technologie
Brabender Technologie is commissioning its new Technical Center in Duisburg in time for FAKUMA. CEO Horst Vohwinkel explains the benefits of these new facilities: “This gives us entirely new opportunities, in terms of both the quantity and quality of the tests we conduct. To date we have suffered from space restrictions and have always only been able to model parts of the process. The new Technical Center will bring a radical change.” Simulation of the entire process The reason for this radical change is the new feeder filling level and a 2-tonne overhead crane which can lift standard packaging like big bags, silos, drums and sacks. Overall there are four full test lines available but the Technical Center also provides space for smaller tests that do not require use of the filling level. In addition, there is a separate area with the hygienic conditions required for food and pharmaceutical applications. Some devices require feeding tests The Duisburg facility
